Enrollment & Training FAQs
What does the Professional Pilot Track cost and include?
The Professional Pilot Track is a flat $77,000 and is structured for completion in 8 months. That covers all flight and ground training from zero experience through Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, Multi-Engine, CFI, and CFII, plus the six FAA written tests (PAR, IRA, CAX, FOI, FIA, and FII). Student housing and in-house DPE checkrides are available for an additional fee.
What happens if I don't have my financing secured yet?
That is perfectly fine for the initial application. You can apply today to start the interview process. Once you are accepted, we will help guide you toward our financing partners, like Stratus, to secure your loan and finalize your start date.
Is there housing available near the academy?
Yes. We offer affordable, fully furnished student housing options about 10 minutes from the flight line, available for an additional minimal fee. Because the Professional Pilot Track is a full-time program, most students relocate to the Pikeville, NC area for the 8 months of training.
The schedule seems intense. Can I work a part-time job while enrolled?
No. We treat our Professional Pilot Track like a full-time career from day one. Expect to be at the flight school 8 to 10 hours a day, Monday through Friday, plus 2 to 3 hours of self-study most evenings. To protect the 8-month timeline, students are not permitted to hold outside employment during training. If you need to keep working, our individual ratings are the better fit.
How do the 'incentive-based' jobs work?
We are looking for our future colleagues. If you excel in the course and demonstrate the character of a professional pilot, we don't just graduate you—we want to hire you. This includes potential paths to CFI, MEI, and even Part 135 positions within our network, with M2A covering costs for advanced ratings for top-tier performers.
I’m not a military pilot; is this program still right for me?
Absolutely. While our roots are in the USAF and we specialize in transitioning military aviators, the Academy was built to bring that same high-level discipline and 'wingman' culture to civilian students. You’ll be training alongside and learning from instructors who have flown at the highest levels of combat and commercial aviation.
