Financing FAQs
What credit score do I need?
Most lenders prefer a credit score of 650 or higher for the best rates. However, we work with lenders who consider applicants with lower scores, especially with a co-signer. Your income, employment history, and debt-to-income ratio also factor into approval decisions.Stratus Financial considers your future career earnings and academic commitment, providing more flexibility than traditional banks.
Do I need a co-signer?
Not always. Many students qualify independently based on their credit and income. However, a co-signer with strong credit can help you secure better interest rates, higher loan amounts, or approval if your credit history is limited. Parents, family members, or trusted friends can serve as co-signers.
When do I start making payments?
Most flight training loans require payments to begin 30-45 days after the first disbursement. Some lenders offer interest-only payments during training or deferred payment options—ask our admissions team about current deferment programs.
Can I pay off my loan early?
Yes! All of our preferred financing partners offer loans with no prepayment penalties. If you get hired at an airline and want to pay off your training loan early with your signing bonus or higher salary, you can do so without extra fees.
What if I don't have established credit?
We work with several lenders who specialize in career training loans for applicants with limited credit history. Options include adding a co-signer with established credit, providing proof of income and employment, or exploring alternative lenders who use different approval criteria beyond traditional credit scores.
Is financing available for international students?
Some of our financing partners require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. However, international students with a U.S. co-signer may qualify for certain loan programs. Contact our admissions team to discuss financing options specific to your situation.
